The Small Fatra is situated in the north-west part of Slovakia. Approximately in the middle of the crest the river Vah breaks through and forms the Strečno Pass, about 12 km long. The highest peak is Velký Fatranský Kriváň (1709 m) in the north part, approachable by chair-lift from the tourist centre Vrátna dolina, one of the most beautiful valleys.
The Big Fatra
The Big Fatra is a mountain range, in the middle part of Slovakia, between the towns of Rožmberok, Banská Bystrice and Martin. About 50 bears live in this area. It is a protected area, the whole crest you can hike in 2 – 3 days where you can admire the most beautiful valleys, e.g. Galenská dolina with rare flora.
